Bay Area Micro Fusion (BAMF), Emeryville
First Impressions of BAMF
I went to Bay Area Micro Fusion (BAMF) for the first time, walking through the open roll‑up door of a converted warehouse. Inside: high ceilings, wide floors, and a vibe that felt slow, close, intentional — the signature of micro fusion.
Parking & Location
Where: Athletic Playground, 4770 San Pablo Ave, Emeryville, CA 94608.
- Parking: A few spots in front (do not park in the sound studio’s spaces). Street parking is usually easy.
- Transit: ~20‑minute walk from MacArthur BART or a quick AC Transit ride.
Entry & Cost
Sliding‑scale contribution (cash or Venmo). If money’s tight, pay what you can — the organizers care more about dancing than your wallet.
Schedule of the Night
- 8:00–9:00 pm — Micro Fusion Fundamentals Class
- 9:00–10:30 pm — DJ #1 set
- 10:30 pm–12:00 am — DJ #2 set
For the Beginner
Fundamentals cover subtle movement, body isolations (shoulders, ribs, hips), breathing, stillness, and close‑embrace connection.
Key Points for Newbies
- Boundaries: Close embrace is always about trust and consent. “No, thank you” is complete.
- No partner required: Partners rotate after each song; you’ll naturally reconnect later if it clicks.
- Roles are flexible: Lead, follow, or switch mid‑dance.
- Shoes: Flat shoes or socks are best for subtle movement.
- Clothes: Comfortable and breathable.
- Water: Bring a reusable bottle.
Micro fusion blends Blues, West Coast Swing, Tango, Zouk, and Kizomba — slowed down and zoomed into micro‑movements. Think of it as partner dance whispered instead of shouted.

Highlights of My Night
During class, one partner “breathed together” a bit too literally. (Pro tip: exhale away, not at your partner.) It was funny and a good reminder that gentle communication matters.
I ended up dancing seven songs with the same partner — a shared rhythm turned into a tiny story.
“Your hips flow amazingly,” someone said — the kind of compliment that feels like recognition of presence and connection.
Spontaneous giggles happen mid‑song; that’s joy, not a mistake.
And I reconnected with a previous tango teacher — through fusion. Movement bridges communities.
Community & Closing Circle
At midnight, there’s a closing circle. Sharing is optional — listening is meaningful, leaving quietly is fine.
Why I Keep Using My Events Bridge
I don’t have time to stalk 15 different Facebook groups and Eventbrite pages. Bay Area Fusion events puts fusion nights in one place, updated daily.
