San Jose Fusion at Dance Boulevard – South Bay’s Monthly Social
On a blue-sky Sunday, after “cardioing” my way through the Walnut Creek shopping district with my bestie, I still had dance energy to spare. I opened my one-stop source—My Events Bridge—and boom: San Jose Fusion at Dance Boulevard, starting soon, monthly, and new to me. Decision time: approximately five seconds.
Where Is It?
Dance Boulevard • 1824 Hillsdale Ave, San Jose, CA 95124
It’s one of the largest and longest-running studios in the South Bay. Fusion happens upstairs on the second floor.
Parking
There’s a big lot right in front of the building—ample parking. Your only challenge is remembering where you parked after four DJs.
Fees
Sliding scale $15–$20. Venmo and Zelle preferred; cash accepted. Consider it a cover charge for joy (and snacks).
The Schedule
- 5:00–6:00 pm — Lesson (rotating teachers)
- 6:00–7:00 pm — DJ 1
- 7:00–8:00 pm — DJ 2
- 8:00–9:00 pm — DJ 3
- 9:00–10:00 pm — DJ 4
Checking In + First-Timer Notes
Head upstairs; someone will check you in. There are plenty of chairs around the floor, and a cozy lounge with water (hydrate like a pro), drinks, and snacks. Wear flat shoes or dance sneakers and comfy clothes—unless your Sunday night soul says “festive,” in which case: yes.
About the Class
This is a monthly event. I landed on their 10th one (anniversary in September!). Teachers rotate based on their home styles—think West Coast Swing, Zouk, and more—so you get a buffet of techniques. This month’s teachers were Ren Enby (West Coast Swing base) and Taylor Kinney (Zouk base), combining groove and momentum ideas into playful, lead-follow creativity. Travis Tri hosted.
My first partner turned out to be Bob Free, long-time organizer of South Bay Fusion back in the day (blues-influenced roots)—and later he was DJ #2. Small world, big dance floor.
Highlights of the Night
I randomly bumped into a tango friend I’d been messaging for a year about practicing together. No planning, just—hello again, dance fate. I also saw a familiar face from the tango scene (and a BAMF DJ). Thanks to his blues base, we slipped into a relaxed blues vibe that felt right at home at SJ Fusion.
